Luke's Legacy Foundation supports rescue groups & families in need with low-cost, mobile emergency dental and medical services for dogs and cats aboard our Wellness Waggin', spay/neuter through our sister organization, Spay Neuter Imperative Project, in addition to transport, foster and rescue services! Luke's Legacy Foundation believes that a single action can make a difference in the community, and we aim to stop the suffering and death of underserved animals through accessible and affordable care. Through advocacy and outreach activities, our team works tirelessly each day to contribute our part to the greater good.
WHO WAS LUKE?
Melanie Scherer, the founder of Luke's Legacy Rescue, was raised around dogs and loves all animals. Together with her husband, she brought home a handsome yellow Labrador, Luke. After many happy years together, Melanie was stunned to find that Luke was full of cancer. Melanie's life was completely altered forever as Luke laid dying in Melanie's arms, his tail still wagging. Since then, Melanie has filled her home with rescue animals and has focused on doing everything she can through Luke's Legacy Foundation to enrich the lives of innocent dogs & cats. Through Luke, who brought Melanie to the realization of how important pawed members of the family are to a home, she hopes that others will find the same joy in giving.

Making A Difference
SPAY/NEUTER & VACCINATIONS
Luke's Legacy Foundation actively works to prevent suffering & death of unwanted animals through funding spay and neuter. Vaccinations also prevent illness. When an animal is spayed/neutered and vaccinated, they have a better chance of being rescued and adopted.
RESCUE, FOSTER & TRANSPORT
Luke's Legacy Foundation recognizes there are many facets to saving an animal from sitting in shelter, often only to be euthanized when a loving home is not avaliable. We are dedicated to stepping up, often partnering with fellow animal rescue groups to coordinate and fund necessary & life saving transport of animals out of shelters to loving foster or rescue homes. We are always striving to make a difference, and invite you to learn more and lend your support.
Luke's Legacy Foundation promotes animal welfare across the Central Coast aboard our Wellness Waggin', providing discounted medical and dental services to ensure that underserved animals in dire need receive adequate care. Whether the dog or cat was found on the side of the road after being hit by a car or saved from a horrible abuse situation, often we are their only hope at life. Luke's Legacy Foundation also supports families who lack the financial means to provide life-saving medical care for their pet so they do not have to euthanize their animal for financial reasons.
